THE PROPHET
by Rene Parault
We felt to share this written by the late renown Leonard
Ravenhill around 1979 from his book "America Is Too Young To Die," a
picture of a prophet. Read on and see if this sounds like some prophets
we are hearing today?
Quote from book:
1. The prophet in his day is fully accepted of God and
totally rejected by men. Dr. Gregory Mantle was right when he said, "No
man can be fully accepted until he is totally rejected." The prophet of
the Lord is aware of both of these experiences. They are his "brand
name."
The group challenged by the prophet because they are smug
and comfortably insulated from a perishing world in their warm but
untested theology are not like to vote him "man of the year" when he
refers to them as habituates of the "synagogue of Satan"!
2. The prophet comes to set up that which is upset. His
work is to call into line those who are out of line!
3. He is unpopular because he opposes the popular in
morality and spirituality. In the day of faceless politicians and
voiceless preachers, there is not a more urgent national need than that
we cry to God for a prophet!
4. The prophet is God's detective seeking for lost
spiritual
treasures. The degree of his effectiveness is determined
by the measure of his unpopularity.
5. Compromise is not known to him.
6. He has no price tags.
7. He is totally "otherwordly."
8. He is unquestionably controversial and unpardonably
hostile.
9. He marches to another drummer!
10. He breathes the rarefied air of inspiration.
11. He is a "seer" who comes to lead the blind.
12. He lives in the heights with God and comes into the
valley
with a "thus saith the Lord."
13. He shares some of the foreknowledge of God, and so is
aware of impending judgment.
14. He lives "in splendid isolation".
15. He is forthright and outright, but he claims no
birthright.
16. His message is "repent, be reconciled to God or
else...!"
17. His prophecies are parried.
18. His truth brings torment, but his voice is never
void.
19. He is the villain to today and the hero of tomorrow.
20. He is excommunicated while alive and exalted when
dead!
21. He is dishonored with epithets when breathing and
honored with epitaphs when dead. He is friendless while living and
famous when dead.
22. He is the schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, but few
"make the grade" in his class.
23. He is against "establishment" in ministry; then he is
established as a "saint" by posterity.
24. Daily he eats the bread of affliction while he
ministers, but he feeds the Bread of Life to those who listen.
25. He walks before men for days, but has walked before
God for years.
26. He is a scourge to the nation before he is scourged
by the nation.
27. He announces, pronounces, and denounces!
28. He has a heart like a volcano and his words are as
fire.
29. God talks to him about men.
30. He talks to men about God.
31. He carries the lamp of truth amongst heretics while
he is lampooned by men.
32. He faces God before he faces men, but he is
self-effacing.
33. He hides with God in the "secret place," but he has
nothing to hide in the marketplace.
34. He is naturally sensitive but supernaturally
spiritual.
35. He has passion, purpose and pugnacity.
36. He is "ordained" of God but disdained by men.
The answer in this hour is we need a God-sent prophet!
