PSALM ONE

THE BLESSED MAN

If we desire to understand the Psalms we must begin from the established facts. It is a wisdom songbook full of instruction of practical godly wisdom, holy living, divine worship, morals and exhortations to trust in God. The Psalms have passed on to us the treasures of the experiences of the godly men who had to walk out life experiences.

It is a truth that we can learn from the experiences of godly men in their spiritual walk even in their failures. The Psalms will surely comfort, guide, reprove, instruct, but it will indeed press you for a decision to live righteous. God intended the Psalms to have this practical effect to achieve His purpose in giving them. In them also we are warned of the eventual and eternal ruin if we don't walk holy.

An elderly Jew arose in one of their meetings and said," My brothers, I have a little book here; it is called the New Testament. I have been reading it; and if I could be sure that it is true, I would say that the man of the first Psalm was Jesus of Nazareth." (From James M. Boice's works on the psalms).

As this Jew was reading the New Testament he was thinking if what he was reading were true, Jesus would be this godly man. In other words this Jew understood the heart of this Psalm is holiness and righteousness. We know Jesus was a godly man, even the Son of the living God without sin. He is God's pattern Son. We have been destined by Father to be like Him and only He can bring forth that godly man of Psalm one.
